All Carabao Cup fixtures, draws & results for EFL League Cup 2023/24
The 64th edition of the Carabao Cup, also known as the League Cup, kicked off on August 8, 2023. Following the Community Shield victory by Arsenal on August 6, the League Cup is set to be the first domestic trophy of the 2023/24 season. The grand finale is scheduled for Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
The Reigning Champions
Manchester United clinched the trophy in 2023 after defeating Newcastle United in the final. However, in a twist of fate, Newcastle United exacted revenge in the fourth round of this season’s competition.
The Prize
Beyond the silverware, the winner of the EFL Cup secures a place in the playoffs of the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League. This offers them a chance to qualify for the group stage of this European cup competition.
The Tournament Structure
The Carabao Cup involves all 92 clubs from the top four tiers of English football: Premier League (20 clubs), Championship (24 clubs), League One (24), and League Two (24). The Premier League clubs not participating in European cup competitions join in the second round, with the remaining eight sides joining in the third round.

The tournament follows a single-elimination format except for the semifinals, which are played over two legs. There is no extra time up to and including the quarter-finals. Matches go straight to penalties if the score is level after 90 minutes. However, extra time will be in effect for the semifinal second legs and the final, if necessary.

The semifinal draw for the Carabao Cup was carried out at Anfield following Liverpool's quarterfinal thrashing of West Ham.
These ties are two-legged matchups. The first legs will be played in the week commencing January 8, 2024, with the return legs in the week beginning January 22, 2024.

Why is it Called the Carabao Cup?
Historically known as the League Cup or EFL Cup, this knockout tournament is organized by the English Football League (EFL). Unlike the FA Cup overseen by the English Football Association (FA), this tournament incorporated each of the top four divisions of English football before the formation of the Premier League in 1992/93. Today, it’s named after its sponsor - Carabao.
